Lau is an elegant wooden table design by Jesus Gasca. The Lau table has been created to match the Laclasica chair.
The singularity of this table design comes from its details: a slight inclination of the legs with a smooth & curved connection to the table top. Hence making this table unique where legs and top flow in a fluid way.
Lau table is available in five beautiful Ash wood finishes with round or rectangular top.
Console and Desk versions are also available.
Additionally for more demanding applications a black laminate with engraved surface is an option.
Jesús Gasca is the founder and principal designer of STUA, a contemporary furniture company based in the resort town of San Sebastían, Spain. STUA prides itself on producing a limited range of furniture, with each piece exquisitely executed out of the finest materials. The style of the work can be characterised as Scandinavian with a Mediterranean touch. The company’s mission is “to improve the habitat in which we live, by refining our designs, and using recyclable components and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.” Contemporary pieces of high technology and simple shapes. Always thinking about the function objects have to have, but with shapes that are new and as close to the user as possible.
STUA which Gasca founded in the early ’80s, has allowed him to develop his own work as a furniture designer. Trained as an engineer, Gasca specialises in technically complex design with attention to detail. Gasca’s recent designs include the Onda stool, Globus Chair, Sapporo Shelving System, Gas Chair and the Deneb Collection.
He has also collaborated with Josep Mora to create the classic Egoa chair that won the Innovate Design Melbourne prize in 1988. Gasca has received the most importat design awards for the Gas chair.
The STUA company has been awarded the National Design Award. The most important recognition to a design company in Spain.
“Good design is not only about beautiful shapes. It always has to be clever in the solution of functional questions”.
The slim line of the round Lau table gives it an air of elegance.
Lau has a very Scandinavian style that gives it a casual look when in clear colours and a more elegant look when in dark colours.
The legs are made of ash wood that comes from sustainably managed European forests.
The curved shape of the legs gives the table a special personality.
The tabletop of Lau table are made of 19 mm MDF with natural ash veneer.
The MDF is formaldehyde free.
The tops have a rounded bevelled edge, giving them a light appearance.
The ash wood is clean and contemporary and the matt finish that STUA applies gives it a natural, woody feel.
The table is first stained, this stain penetrates deep into the ash wood. Then it is protected with an acrylic cover, both factors make the table more durable.
The large, rectangular tables have a hidden metallic reinforcement, which makes the frame thicker and stronger.
Lau tables are made in Ash wood, natural and stained.
As a natural material the Ash will have different shades and perfectly formed imperfections.
All wood comes from sustainably managed forests registered with the PEFC (program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
As a hard wearing (and more economical) alternative, all top sizes are available in black laminate.
The black laminate black material has Atlas surface engraving and a black MDF core.
Atlas engraving enhances the wood appearance effect yet the melamine based surface is very strong. Edges are black, varnished.
A further 4 sizes of smaller table tops, 3 square and 1 rectangular are available solely in the black laminate finish. Ideal for commercial use.
